WebPlus the gameplay and overall feel of DOS2 is quite a bit better than DOS1, i struggled getting through the latter because of how clunky some things were, like you having to manually heal with spells after every fight. Overall you aren't missing too much, you can go back and play DOS1 if you want and treat it like a prequel.
